Puyallup police shot and injured an armed man wearing body armor at the end of a pursuit late Thursday.

Officers were called about 10:25 p.m. to a home in the 300 block of 4th Street SW for a verbal domestic dispute where an estranged husband had forced his way into the house.

Dispatchers advised police that the 45-year-old man had threatened to kill his wife in the past.

As officers were en route, one noticed the suspect’s vehicle traveling south on Fruitland Avenue and tried to pull him over, but the suspect refused to stop.

A pursuit ensued, ending about 10:40 p.m. near East 64th Street and Portland Avenue when a Puyallup police officer fired shots at the suspect.

Investigators have not released details about what prompted the shooting.

The suspect was wounded and taken to an area hospital.

He was later booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary and felony eluding.

No officers were injured.

Tacoma police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

The Puyallup officer was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a shooting.
